Overview

Cleaning your residential property can either be a sprint or a marathon… it all depends on the time you spend (now) tidying.

Before we head into winter, and while we have one or two more hours in the day during this isolation period, it’s time to take stock of those common household tasks you keep putting off. And you don’t need to go it alone, at Lugtons we are here to help!

While our team is in lockdown, they have been getting stuck into curating a list of the top spots around your residential property to tackle while we’re in COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown.

Scrub those shower doors

We’ve all heard our parents say it, ‘squeegee the bathroom doors after your shower.’ But how many of us really do it? To squeegee – a seemingly reasonable request – is probably the most commonly ignored household chore.

Known to reduce hard-water stains, mineral buildup (thank you lime!) and mildew, cleaning your shower doors stops etching and permanent damageWhat should you use to get the job done? Well, we have it on good authority, from our Real Estate Salespeople, that C-thru Water Spot Remover is the way to go if you’re looking for a chemical application. However, if you don’t have any on-hand, there are several home-made applications that should help you do the trick – you can make a spray cleaner by mixing two cups of baking soda, 1/2 cup all-natural dish soap, 1 cup water, and 1/2 cup vinegar. The mixture will cut soap scum and grime on most surfaces.

Clean your oven

Yes, we said it… it’s time to get out your gloves, prepare your mask, find the protective goggles hidden in the garage, and clean your oven. We understand, it can often seem like a frivolous task, but looking after your chattels can improve the value on your property in the long run.

If you don’t have oven cleaner at home or are looking for an environmentally friendly alternative to the harsh chemicals commonly used to clean this appliance, why not try a paste made up of soap, vinegar and baking soda – that way even the kids can help!

Garden maintenance DIY time

Over this isolation period, thus far, the weather has been perfect for getting out into the great outdoors. Why not make use of this time to repaint, varnish and give some TLC to tired wooden fixtures? Or how about dusting off those gardening tools to weed, mow and get your beds updated in the back garden.

We all know how important it is to create a sense of arrival, but that doesn’t mean we should forget the back hedges. Your back garden is just as important to consistently look after, as the front area. It’s where a family will relax, enjoy themselves and make use of all the space you have in your home! Especially when youre making use of every inch of it, at times like these.

Get motivated!

If you aren’t feeling motivated and are looking for some tips and tricks to help you on your cleaning journey, try one – or all – of these:

  • Start with a list. Once you have your list you know how much there is to do, and you can start delegating tasks out throughout your week.
  • Begin with the hardest jobs first. That way you’re constantly moving towards easier jobs.
  • Go room-by-room. Concentrating on one spot can stop you from swapping between job, while in the middle of a job.
  • Make it funTry putting music onon making it a challenge between you and your partner.
Stay safe NZ

During these uncertain times, it’s important to ensure that you stay inside, stay safe and be kind – especially to yourself. Going through your cleaning list and ticking an item off one-by-one can help you stay focused, get your property ready for all the guests you plan on having over once we’re allowed to move out of our bubbles, and give you a sense of fulfillment while at home. Happy cleaning!
