Their mission is to break down barriers to sport participation for our young people in the Waikato. When we heard about the impact The WaterBoy has had in it's six short years, we knew it was an organisation that reflects the same values that we instil in our business everyday. It was a natural fit from the moment we met Thomas and his team.
The WaterBoy has impacted thousands of kids by helping them play sports - whether it’s gear, fees, transport, uniforms - they do what it takes to get them in the game. Together, we are creating stronger people and stronger communities.
Established in 1945 by the Hamilton Harrier Club (now known as Hamilton City Hawks), Lugtons Round The Bridges started out as a road race designed to showcase some of NZ's top athletes, with past participants having included Barry Magee, Peter Snell and Dick Quax. Given its popularity, the event grew from strength to strength, eventually becoming the fantastic community event you see today!
Nowadays the event welcomes people of all shapes and sizes, from primary school students right through to running legends. There's everything from the Grassroots Trust 2km Kids Challenge for the kids, right through to the competitive 12km race. With finisher's medals for every participant, on-course musical entertainment and thousands of fun-loving runners and walkers, Lugtons Round The Bridges offers an awesome day out which the entire family can enjoy.
