Let's Get Moving! We're spoilt for choice in Hamilton, and the wider Waikato region with walking and hiking tracks - here are Lugton's top picks...
Blue Spring at Te Waihou Walkway, Putaruru
Bring the camera, a truly beautiful track! Supplying around 70% of NZ’s bottled water, the walks here range from 30 minutes to 3 hours (return).
Hakarimata Summit Track, Ngaruawahia
Venture to the Hakarimata Summit, 374 metres above sea level, which includes the popular staircase, a great challenge for all.
Hamilton Lake, Hamilton
Popular with runners and walkers alike, this is an easy and picturesque track in the heart of Hamilton City.
Lake Te Koutu, Cambridge

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, Te Awamutu
The largest ecological ‘island’ on mainland New Zealand, Maungatautari Ecological Island Reserve is a haven for native wildlife and plants, whilst also providing great walking and hiking tracks.
Wairere Falls, Matamata
A popular Waikato walking track, Wairere Falls is the highest waterfall in the North Island, and just 10 minutes’ drive from Matamata.
